How the NCLEX process works

The path is similar in every state — only the board, fees, and a few requirements change.

    Apply to the Board

    Submit your application to your chosen state's Board of Nursing.

  2. 2

    Send School Documents

    Have your transcript and credentials sent directly to the board.

  3. 3

    Register with Pearson VUE

    Register for the NCLEX-RN and pay the $200 fee.

  4. 4

    Receive your ATT

    Get your Authorization to Test once you're deemed eligible.

  5. 5

    Schedule the NCLEX

    Book your exam at a Pearson VUE center — including international sites.

  6. 6

    Take the Exam

    Sit the NCLEX-RN (CAT + Next Gen clinical judgment items).

    Get Licensed

    Pass and receive your RN license from the state board.
