Step-by-Step Process

Apply to the California Board of Registered Nursing
Create an account with the California Board of Registered Nursing and complete the application for licensure by examination (RN). Pay the state application fee of approximately $350. You will also need to complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check.

Use your ATT to schedule your exam at a Pearson VUE testing center. International candidates can test at approved centers worldwide. Choose a date and location that gives you enough time to prepare.

Take the NCLEX
Arrive at least 30 minutes early with a valid, unexpired government-issued ID that matches your registration. The NCLEX-RN uses Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) and includes Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) clinical judgment items.
